I have a childs rocking chair that needs cleaned up.?
I have an 50 year old childrens rocking chair-it is very dusty and faded. The seat is weaved. My questions is: how do you clean it,should I touch it up with paint and should I use polyurethyne on it to protect it from wear and tear? THANKS!!!!

If you want to keep it in its' original order, I would only use a damp cloth to clean it the seat. If the wood is really bad there is a product called Murphy's Oil Soap. It works really well.
Sand it and varnish it. Maybe laquer it, this will prevent wear and tear for a long, long time, just don't bang it around, it may get scratched and that's where the wear and tear begins. Get a professional to reupholster the weave. Unless you know how. Good luck.
I suggest you take it to an antiques dealer before doing anything. and cleaning or refinishing would possibly destroy its value.
If he weave is'nt torn up .They sell a good spray on stain in all color's.Lightly sand down, cover what you don't want a stain on and spray lightly.Till shade you want .After it dry's good spray a coat on polyurethyne. If weave is to bad,you can take off and replace with a small rope, and weave it thru. Not hard.First layer wrap around seat from front to rear as tight as you can.The other layer from side to side and that's the one you weave thru other layer.Over and under is all it is.Good luck.
